Working to support a family is a challenging task, and it's even more difficult when your employer fails to recognize the importance of your personal life.
This was the case for a member of NPAV, who experienced constant harassment and bullying from their employer.
Their employer was frequently scheduling meetings during their time off and expecting them to attend. When they didn't attend, they would be bombarded with calls and texts, and their shifts would be paused without pay.
The situation was stressful and made them feel undervalued and unsupported.
Fortunately, they had NPAV in their corner, and one of our experienced case managers took on their case. We challenged management about their inappropriate behaviour and advocated for our member's rights.
The case manager challenged the employer about their actions, highlighting the negative impact they were having on the employee's personal and professional life. The case manager also advocated for the member's right to a fair and respectful workplace, which should prioritise their personal needs and work-life balance.
In fact, that’s the optimal scenario for both the employer and employee. Happy people are by far the most productive.
The results were significant. Our member experienced a complete turnaround in their work environment. They no longer faced harassment or bullying, and management stopped scheduling meetings during their time off. Instead, they received the respect and support they deserved.
Our member was elated with the outcome, thrilled to be able to focus on supporting their family without the constant unnecessary stress and anxiety of work issues.
Why is the NPAV different? We believe that real change in healthcare STARTS with empowering frontline nurses, not bureaucrats.
