Why is the NPAV different to the ANMF?

It’s no secret that traditional trade unions have heavy links to the ALP and provide financial support and in-kind support for politics. How is it fair that nurses working on the frontline who are required to have insurance for work be charged extra, while being forced into a political agenda they probably don't agree with? 

Not only does this relationship with the Labor party make your fees more expensive than they need to be, but it causes these trade unions to push an enterprise bargaining agreement onto its members that is simply not doing enough - god forbid they risk their relationship to get nurses real results. 

Healthy competition is something that is required in every industry. What happens when you don’t have any competition? It creates an inelastic demand - the ability to charge whatever price without sacrificing members - which is detrimental to frontline workers who are already dealing with the ever increasing cost of living expenses. Furthermore, the quality of service provided to members can be heavily sacrificed without competition. 

We are constitutionally prohibited from donating or providing in kind support to ANY political party. What does this mean? Our sole focus is on our members and we can charge far cheaper fees than alternative unions whilst providing a better service regardless of which political party you support. 

All we want you to know is that you now have a choice! We strongly believe every worker should have the right to a choice in who represents them. 

Alternative unions such as the QNMU have gone out of their way to feed their members propaganda about our organisation. We have conviction that we do exactly what our members pay us to do and we don’t get caught up in petty fights. 

We pride ourselves on representing you no matter what the issue is. We will never need to check whether the issue is a) aligned with a political agenda or b) too unpopular in the media to pursue. 

It could be argued that some other unions like a dispute to carry on to justify union membership. Our speedy resolution of cases is a key philosophical difference between us and alternative unions. Within 12-24 hours, you will receive a response to your case and be assigned a case manager who will walk you through your case and provide support and assistance in a friendly and consultative manner - no judgments, ever. Regular phone calls and emails can be expected to keep you up to date with the progress of your case.
