Case Win: Safety Complaints in Nursing

Advocacy & Support for Nurses

Safety complaints in nursing often arise from genuine concerns about patient care, professional standards, and workplace conditions.

Initially contracted for 12 months, Avery, a member of the NPAA Queensland branch made the difficult decision to terminate her employment prematurely due to her concerns about patient safety.

She was not prepared to work in a toxic workplace culture where permanent nurses hesitated to voice safety concerns due to fears of reprisal and bullying.

Unsure who to turn to, Avery contacted the NPAA for assistance.

Avery’s assigned case manager wrote a formal notification to bring attention to patient safety. The notification highlighted the lack of adherence to the National Safety and Quality Standards within clinical practice, and the poor clinical care that did not align with the Professional Code of Conduct and Ethics for Nurses.

As a result of the support and assistance from NPAA, the Safety and Quality Team acknowledged the notification and committed to analysing the concerns raised.

How is the NPAA so effective in defending members during workplace issues and disputes? Our experienced and professional case managers use our unique RED™ case resolution system.

Why is the NPAA different? We believe that real change in healthcare STARTS with empowering frontline nurses, not bureaucrats.
